Areas We Serve - South Florida

History

South Florida’s roots stretch back thousands of years to Indigenous groups like the Tequesta and Calusa, who lived along its coasts and waterways. Spanish explorers arrived in the 1500s, but meaningful development didn’t begin until the late 1800s, when railroad expansion led by Henry Flagler opened the region to settlers and tourism. Communities such as Miami rapidly grew in the early 20th century. A defining milestone came in 1947 with the dedication of Everglades National Park, preserving one of the world’s most unique ecosystems. According to the State of Florida, South Florida continues to be a major driver of FL’s tourism and international trade economy.
